About SUCSEED

Growing sustainable futures

SUCSEED equips VET professionals with future-ready skills in climate-smart agriculture and New-Digital Plant Breeding Tools (NPBTs).

We connect educators, farmers and innovators across Europe to co-create resilient, high-quality seed systems that can respond to climate change and ensure long-term food security.

Our mission

Empowering VET ecosystems to lead the transition towards climate-smart seed systems.

SUCSEED builds bridges between research, education and practice. We curate high-quality learning experiences that help VET teachers and trainers bring New-Digital Plant Breeding Tools into classrooms, labs and fields.

By working closely with regional stakeholders, we ensure that our outputs are grounded in real needs and can be adopted at scale across different agricultural contexts.

What we focus on

  • • Innovative VET curricula for plant breeding and seed systems
  • • Practical, field-based learning experiences and demonstrations
  • • Strong networks between VETs, farmers and seed producers
  • • Accessible digital materials that can be re-used and adapted

Who we work with

VET providers, universities, research institutes, public authorities and practitioners who share a commitment to resilient, sustainable agriculture.

Rooted in Erasmus+: Growing Innovation through VET

SUCSEED is funded under the Erasmus+ Programme, KA210-VET - Small-scale Partnerships in Vocational Education and Training. The project runs for 15 months and is coordinated by the Portuguese National Agency. It contributes directly to Erasmus+ priorities such as innovation in VET, environmental sustainability, and the fight against climate change. By integrating agriculture, digitalisation, and vocational education, SUCSEED supports the European vision for a resilient and sustainable agri-food sector.

Sowing the Seeds of Sustainable Change

SUCSEED aims to strengthen the knowledge and professional skills of VET professionals in the field of New Plant Breeding Tools and certified quality seed production. In response to climate change and food security challenges, the project promotes innovative, digital, and sustainable agricultural practices. By empowering VET educators and sector actors, SUCSEED contributes to building a skilled workforce capable of leading Europe's transition towards resilient and climate-smart agriculture.

Cultivating Skills for a Climate-Resilient Future

The project seeks to enhance the technical and theoretical capacity of VET trainers, align agricultural VET with the needs of the seed sector, and promote awareness of sustainable and climate-friendly technologies. SUCSEED also aims to foster cross-sectoral collaboration, develop international networks, and support the dissemination of innovative plant breeding practices. Through structured training, practical learning, and digital tools, the project strengthens both professional competencies and long-term sector cooperation.

Empowering the Agri-Food Ecosystem

The primary target group includes agri-food VET trainers and educators, agricultural advisors, local municipalities supporting VET institutions, and university lecturers and students in biotechnology and bioengineering. The secondary target group consists of farmers, producers, seed certification agencies, seed research institutions, biotechnology companies, and rural development stakeholders. By strengthening VET professionals, the project indirectly supports the wider agricultural ecosystem and promotes knowledge transfer across the sector.

From Knowledge to Field: Learning by Doing

SUCSEED develops a comprehensive educational curriculum covering NPBTs, genetic diversity, CRISPR technologies, quality seed standards, and EU agricultural strategies. Interactive courses and active learning workshops are organised locally to build awareness and technical expertise. A practical field visit in Portugal enables participants to gain hands-on experience in certified seed production, laboratory testing, and modern breeding technologies. Additionally, a digital Networking Platform is created to map seed production and breeding centres, share best practices, publish a digital guidebook, and connect stakeholders across countries. These activities combine theoretical knowledge with practical application to ensure measurable and sustainable impact.

Stronger Together: A Transnational Partnership for Impact

SUCSEED is implemented by a strong transnational consortium. The coordinating organisation, Escola Profissional de Agricultura e Desenvolvimento Rural de Marco de Canaveses (EPAMAC, Portugal), is a vocational education institution specialised in agriculture and rural development with extensive practical training facilities. İnovasyon Girişimcilik Eğitim ve Araştırma Derneği (IGEA, Türkiye) brings expertise in innovative educational tools, digital technologies, and VET programme development. Sustainable Development Studies Network (SDSN, Belgium) contributes its experience in vocational education, research, agricultural training, and international networking. Together, the partners combine expertise in agriculture, digital innovation, sustainability, and vocational training to ensure the project's quality, impact, and long-term sustainability.
